Upon graduation, Jos joined an industrial laundry company with plants throughout the eastern part of the United States. In 1985, Jos and his wife Kathy (who also holds an MBA) bought, with more than 98 percent debt, a small sixty-year-old industrial laundry in Searcy, Arkansas. Over the next seventeen years, Jos and Kathy drove ever-higher levels of leadership, teamwork, and success throughout the organization. In fact, revenue grew to twelve times its 1985 level. Searcy Uniform & Mat Service was Arkansas’s largest independent company of its kind and serviced more than 5,000 customers throughout the state and in the Memphis area.

Jos is a licensed facilitator of Stephen Covey leadership training. Inc. magazine featured a seven-page article on their Searcy company and the way Jos and Kathy incorporated Covey’s leadership and time-management principles into the organization’s culture. While Covey’s principles helped Jos gain clarity in business, he struggled to achieve that same level of clarity in his personal life. A health scare forced him to take stock. Jos knew he needed to find a way to clarify his personal core values, his life’s purpose, and his personal vision.

And he knew he needed a concrete, day-by-day method to connect his current activities to his future goals. Over the years, Jos refined these simple, step-by-step actions into a proven process, which he calls Creating Your Best You.

In 2002, Searcy Uniform & Mat Service merged with Cintas, Inc. and Jos stayed on as general manager for fifteen months before choosing to retire. Since retirement, Jos and Kathy created the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) Rocky Mountain Leadership College for kids and couples based on the Covey principles. Jos spent several years on the international Youth and Family board for YPO and has been Forum Officer in Arkansas and in Denver, Colorado, for more than fifteen years. Together, Jos and Kathy coach entrepreneurs, business leaders, and professionals in the Creating Your Best You process to guide busy, often overwhelmed, professionals to gain clarity and achieve goals in their business and personal lives.

In 2017, Jos and Kathy moved to downtown Denver. They travel extensively including to the Netherlands where Jos’s family still lives. With “family” being a core value for Jos and Kathy, they make time to thoroughly enjoy their three kids and four grandchildren.
